Team 18 - Poems of the Heart - Part II

Hey guys glad you liked the first part, although not all of you left comments. Special thanks to Medini and Sidharth R for doing so. Now for the other 6 people that I still have to weave out a few lines for. Since Medini and Raman were the first to show their appreciation, I ll write about them first.

Sidhrath Raman : Who should have got the wild card he deserved

When you hear his last name, you immediately think Tenali, Tenali,
He is so sober, innocent, and from his mouth you will hear no Gali.
A software engineer from Pune but who resides in Thane,
Everytime I needed Strepsils, "Raman gaya usse Lane".
The silent spectator in every one of our conversations,
But his roaring laughter needed no indication,
Of whom it was coming from and when did he get there?
Even Hemant's most perverted jokes, he would bear.
An ardent sports lover, especially that of cricket,
A watchful batsman who protected his wicket.
With excellent Diction would have made a good presenter,
Jatin and Hemant were truly his mentors.
Unfortunate among us all to be eliminated, but yet he went out smiling.
ESPN knows it, and very soon your number they will be dialing.

Medini :

Terribly sorry for including you in the list so late,
Otherwise I know you would have in store for me a terrible fate: P.
But all said and done you were extremely soft spoken and sweet,
Charismatic features making the boys heart skip a beat.
At First tall, intimidating and dominating to Vinayak it did seem,
An all rounder with valuable insights you were to our team
Open, approachable, friendly and extremely candid,
You made quite an impression on everyone especially Sid.
Your journalistic style attributes to your innumerable skills,
Kept you steadfast in Round I during the judges Drills.
Although the production team may have moved you to tears,
The success you gain here forth, will take you ahead for many years.
An Eloquent speech you can deliver with such a voice,
You’re new Job with Cricinfo, makes all 17 of us REJOICE.

Sacith:

The King of sarcasm, always displaying humor with wit,
Sports was a passion so commentary did seem fit.
Talkative and verbose, in an argument he always had his way,
I guess that all comes from being a veteran RJ.
Fluent in English, Hindi as well as Kannada,
Among the Bangaloreans, he was Sabse Bada.
When it came to Shireen, he would hover across as if he was pulled by a magnet,
Would offer girl advice to Vinayak, saying for the future it will get him all set.
As Glen says he was a pro and knew his way around a microphone,
But mate your flirting skills, you really do need to hone.
So we previewed Mirchi’s Best Kannadiga RJ from Bangalore,

After he finishes his show, I’m sure his fans ask for an ENCORE.

Karthik Kannan :

A computer engineer who’d stick with programming software,
Mishra would often say “Karthik come HAIR”.
Always up in his room busy working on his laptop,
Uploading videos and pictures which were ready to crop.
Every day to day incident found its way online since he was an active blogger,
A reserved eater at the dinner table, unlike some of us Hoggers.
For every small incident, Karthik with his camera would go click click,
Sacith told him not to be embarrassed while clicking pictures with chicks.
Karthik took a picture while we took the mickey and made Vinayak the bunny,
To which Jatin replied “you think its f******ing funny”.
L. Sivaramkrishnan look alike they told him on Cricket Crazy,
Although he was nt the most active, he certainly was nt lazy.
While reporting on scene, a tinge of Tamil accent did arise,
But when offering me advice, he certainly did seem wise.

Nishant Majithia:

“Yet so close and yet so far”, who knows this better than him,
He came back yet again with more experience and talent filled right up to the brim.
The true pride of Orissa, he came back with courage and zeal,
Slowest eater at the table, irrespective of the meal.
Calm, reserved and always had a cigarette lit,
As far as commentary goes he certainly was a hit.
Having pursued his passion since such an early age,
His words of wisdom are almost that of a wise sage.
Perizaad said he was the best in commentary in Dhaka,
I’m sure you ve made everyone proud, matha, pitha aur Kaka.
Unfortunately the judges did nt get the Indian system of you eating Paan,
But having come here all the way, aapne badaya Cuttack khi shaan.
You ve done your share of commentary from the barabati stadium,
Describing factually the fall of wickets and using many an idiom.
Your humility in victory and graciousness in defeat makes you outstanding from a mob,
Your work and passion is the same thing at cricbuzz and that’s truly a Dream Job.
Although you were nt the winner, for the judges it was a hard decision which they took.
It does nt matter mate, for your efforts your still a winner in my book.

Pooja Teckchandani:

Pooja oh pooja the grandma of all of us at team eighteen,
The last one to be seen arriving in the evening at seven thirteen.
Qualifications galore, with an impressive resume highlighting MBA,
She’s from the commercial capital, the bustling city of Bombay.
Caring considerate she even helped us iron our clothes and helped us fold,
But when it came to work, it had to be done well or she would scold.
Underestimated talent and potential and she went to surprise,
Bonded well with all of us and did build strong ties.
A pleasant demeanor, although when she screamed her voice was shrill,
But she had her valid reasons, and was nt doing it for thrills.
During the roving reporter task, she did all the planning,
The crew had it easy, and pooja even planned the camera panning,
Accordingly to suit the background in need,
Was just one of the few accomplished of pooja’s deeds.
Sadly for her exit came about due to a Sports Quiz,
Not her forte, but she’s queen in the Marketing Bizz.
Meticulous and Organized is this Executive Consultant,
Soon with a sports channel she will land a stint.

Hope you guys liked it for all 17, as for the 18 th victim, let that be anonymous. I guess I need one of you poetry in motion people to write one for me then.

Signing off for now,

Akshobh Giridharadas

Team 18 - Poems of the heart

Hey Guys, while everyone has got into the blogging syndrome. I thought I might as well join in. While Vinayak has given his experience of the days at Corporate Residency in an uncanny manner and Abhik has given spot on character analysis of everyone, I thought I d try something diffrent.

Heres a little lines on rhyming sequences on everyone, better known as poems, but I daresay I can hardly write poems.

Please dont be offended by anything I mentioned about people, its a little light hearted humour and also dont mind puntuation marks or spelling mistakes.

Its just a question on spontaneity.

Okay first up I ve posted only on ten of you guys, the rest will follow once I get a positive feedback [:P].

Shireen :

Shireen is no damsel in distress,

she’s camera friendly and ideal for the press.
Talented and confident not to forget successful,
as far as the judges vote goes she’s got the pull.
For some reason more friendly with guys than the gals,
it does not matter she’s got no shortage of pals.
Doubt her support to an Indian team without Irfan,
She’s also petrified of Zaheer Khan.
She knows all of them and judges them by their look,
But hey she can also read you like an open book.

Jatin:

Jatin has gone to the bank,
he ll soon have Dream Job to thank.
Oh how supreme and presentable,
Not to forget to mention capable and able,
Soon he will be the future of star cricket,
Commentating on the fall of every wicket,
But he ll soon forget he did like football,
And the lil gooner (me) who used to call.

Arvind:

The Ladies man you may say while talking to him,
His Personality is bright although he is too quiet and at times dim.
Personification of aggressive when it comes to debates,
Shared no secrets with anyone, not even his close mates.
Always on his laptop, protecting it with a password lock,
His imitations are quite uncanny, especially the one of the Rock.
He’s got too much too offer, Mckinsey knows that,
More than capable of get a 1600 in SAT.
MIT, Harvard are the future names calling for this prodigy,
But he’s following his passion and about his future is not at all edgy.
His passion is not only cricket, and he knows how a football is curled,
GUESS YOU CAN ACTUALLY SAY – HES THE LUCKIEST PERSON IN THE WORLD.

Hemant:

For some judges, they may say they ve lost him in translation,
His commentary is faster than the Howrah between stations.
Keen and eager he is to take charge,
Will not stop to knock, into your room he will barge.
Quite the character, you could listen to him with attention and rapture,
It won’t be long now, before a contract with a Hindi channel he will capture,
His jokes are plenty, some perverted to the core,
But trust me he’s a livewire and anything but a bore.
Often he will utter words so strange like Dulli,
Some which I did not understand the meaning of fully.
He’s a caring person, who wants to give back to society,
His heart is big, warm and extremely mighty.
Quite a hog at the table, chicken, fish, cutlets and kheer,
But hey when we remember, WE THINK ABOUT BENAZIIIIIIR.

Isaac:

As Abhik once said he is the personification of calmness,
So genuine and friendly, his talent is no less.
Among the team 18 members he was calm and docile,
Mate don’t give up, your potential is going to take you miles.
Mishra would often say, the production team made a glitch,
In the Potter World, the judges missed out the on the golden snitch.
Epitome of brilliance, and multifaceted he is definitely is,
A minute to judge him and they made a vital miss,
On his potential, his charisma and camera readiness.
A definite winner, I truly must confess.
Unfortunately for him, some people after dream job may say who hai kaun,
In the Future, as far as sports presenters go, the name on the lips will be ISASC JOHN.

Abhik:

He may seemed an introvert as far as the first day goes,
But that is nt true as his commentary is speedy and it seems like it’s from a hose.
He was not so active or talkative at first due to a sinus,
Since he was so quiet some thought it was a big minus.
But trust me all that soon went out of the window,
When his mimickery will find him places to go.
Funny and humorous, he is indeed quite a mimic,
He’s hilarious, and he does not any gimmick.
The Dark horse, or the silent assassin,
The nawab of lucknow, where lies his kith and kin.
Humorous, funny and down to earth is Abhik Chatterjee,
Indeed he FLOATS LIKE A BUTTERFLY, BUT HE STINGS LIKE A BEE.

Vinayak:

A bubbly little energetic fellow, brimming with talent,
A little kid he may seem, but trust me he will grow up to be gallant.
Vulnerable, juvenile and gullible he may seem,
A smile of a thousand volts when he does beam.
Afraid of anything in Gaziabad or relating to nethari,
Hemant and Jatin would often say, vinayak khi izzat mari.
Hovering around Shireen and Sacith for company,
Friends and Acquaintances he did have in many.
The victim of a lot of midnight pranks,
Not to mention Jatin’s room service phone call cranks.
Messy when it came to his closet, he was my roomie,
He would often call me Abodh, to which I replied Who me??
His innocence and at times immaturity may have been taken for granted,
But his immediate success, in his heart a seed of confidence has been planted.
Hemant and others did not have to do much to intimidate,
This young chap, but he indeed was my close mate.
Your journey here has made everyone proud, especially pitha aur matha,
Ganguly who ?? You’re the true prince of Kolkata.
A caring compatriot and in the true sense of the word A friend,
Mate your journey on Dream Job, IS ONLY THE BEGINNING AND NOT THE END.

Emaad:

He sings, he goes on non stop with his commentary,
Always A smile on his face, he’s happy and merry.
But at times you may be annoyed and call him AkashVANI,
Emmad se poocho, he ll always have a kahani.
The Sultan of Commentary so it may seem,
He still regrets not being able to play cricket with WASIM.
Considered lucky among the 12 to have got a Wild Card,
He’s optimistic and positive, so he did nt his exit Hard.
After listening to his shair, we d say Aisay Emaad ne Kaha,
Only one thing mate – MOOO HAHAHA HAHAHAHA.

Lara:

As Mandira says a sight for sore eyes,
She’s probably the goddess of truth and will speak no lies.
As we all feel a gorgeous Presenter she will be,
So humble and down to earth, she did even speak to me.
Intuitive, spontaneous and friendly, she did light a spark,
With all 17 of us she left quite a mark.
Social, Casual and friendly and supportive,
Of all us, to be the first woman commentator is her motive.
A true team player and sportswoman by the sense of the word,
So soft spoken, you d wonder if she could be heard.
Her ability to commentate on fours, sixes and a brilliant catch,
You and Jatin indeed make a really good match.

Faisal:

The tehzeeb of Lucknow,
Your humility touched the whole of North India, from Ratlam to Mao.
Down to earth, humble he would hardly ever speak,
I would often wonder if I met someone who was ever so gentle and meek.
In all our conversations, a silent spectator he was,
Would not even utter a word, even when we paused.
He had a saying or shair for every occasion,
His beaming smile really did touch the nation.
Faisal did the whole of Lucknow proud,
His humility in both success and defeat will make him stand out of a crowd.

Mishra Jeee:

His English may not be supreme but may have a glitch,
When you ask company, he’s always there and never will ditch.
The personality is cool and that of a film star,
Was never hesitant to turn corporate residency into a bar.
Threes still a debate if he’s a Firzi Delhi ite or a Mumbaikar,
But he’s the future of Bollywood, and is staring in the remake of Dar.
Sports to an extent, but acting is his forte,
His Impersonation of sharukh was truly quite gay.
Always uttering the words “array yaar”,
He’d soon be the lead actor in kabhi tho huwa pyaar.
The next time we meet, he ll be offering me some wine,
In his brand new house on Pali hill, we shall dine.

Okay, so now this was simply the start. I too will work on public demand, so if you guys liked it, then I will write for the other 7 guys. All 18 of us really were a motley crew, a medly of all sorts of talent. Will keep posting.
